How Soon Will My Vision Improve After Cataract Surgery?
At Kugler Vision, laser cataract surgery only takes about 20 minutes for one of our refractive surgeons to perform but changes your life forever. Afterward, you may find yourself asking, “How long will my results last?”
For most of our laser cataract patients, vision improves within the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery. Patients will generally achieve maximum visual improvement about a month after their cataract surgery. It is important to take all prescribed medication to help ensure the best possible results.
What are the long-term effects of cataract surgery?
Our cataract surgeons remove your clouded lens from your eye and replace it with a clear lens implant. The lens is durable and should last for the rest of your life. The outer lining wall of the cataract, the capsule, is left in place during surgery to hold the lens implant in place. Months to years after the removal of the cataract, this capsule can become cloudy and vision may decrease. When this happens, a YAG laser is used in our office to remove the cloudy membrane and restore clear vision.
Will my glasses prescription change after cataract surgery?
At Kugler Vision, the vast majority of our cataract patients choose to have their glasses prescription corrected at the time of cataract surgery. This is accomplished by using a femtosecond laser, and by advanced IOL implants. These effects are permanent and may last a lifetime. After surgery, it is unlikely that your prescription will change significantly over the long term, though it may change slightly. If significant change occurs, treatments such as LASIK are available to fine-tune your vision.
