Discover the BlephEx Treatment for Dry Eyes and Blepharitis

BlephEx is a revolutionary treatment for dry eye and blepharitis. Blepharitis is a common condition that results in inflammation affecting the eyelids and eyelashes. Blepharitis is typically caused by bacterial infections, allergic reactions, excessive oil production by glands in the eyelid, or poor eyelid hygiene. It can happen to anyone but is more common with age, with the average blepharitis sufferer being 50 or older.

Blepharitis may lead to persistent eye irritation and increasingly worse dry eye symptoms. Those suffering from blepharitis may experience:

  • redness, irritation, and a dry or sandy feeling in the eyes
  • watery eyes
  • itchy eyelids
  • red or swollen eyelids
  • flaking of the skin around the eyes
  • crusted eyelashes upon waking

Blepharitis shares many symptoms with dry eye syndrome, including redness, irritation, and a dry or sandy feeling in the eyes.

What to Expect During BlephEx Treatment

The BlephEx is a comfortable in-office procedure. During the procedure, our BlephEx expert uses a specialized handpiece to carefully and precisely clean along the edge of the inner eyelids and lashes. This process removes bacteria, scurf (small flakes of shed skin), and debris from the eyelid’s surface. The BlephEx treatment exfoliates the inner eyelids — an area of the human body that is rarely, if ever, cleaned.

The procedure lasts about 20 to 30 minutes and is well-tolerated. Most patients simply report a tickling sensation. A numbing drop is placed in each eye prior to treatment for increased comfort.

After the procedure, we teach you how to maintain your clean eyelids with regular at-home cleaning. Similar to a professional removal of plaque and tartar from your teeth, BlephEx will need to be repeated periodically to maintain results.
