How Laser Vision Correction May Improve Sport Performance

Published by Lance Kugler, MD on October 18, 2016

Do you lead an active lifestyle? Do you play sports professionally, on school affiliated teams, or just regularly hit the field with friends? What if we told you that you aren’t performing your best or that you’re playing all your favorite sports with a disadvantage?

Sports performance and eyesight

The better the vision, the better the performance. No matter the sport or the level at which a person participates, this has been proven true and is good news for people that enjoy:

  • Golf
  • Football
  • Tennis
  • Basketball
  • Racquetball
  • Baseball and Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Lacrosse
  • Bicycling
  • Swimming
  • And so many more activities!

Everyone from weekend warriors to professional athletes can have new opportunities to improve their game by improving their eyesight. At Kugler Vision in Omaha, we can help you enhance your sports performance. The answer is clear: LASIK!

LASIK will give you visual freedom so that the only thing you are focusing on is the game– not slipping or fogging glasses or dry and scratchy contacts. You deserve to see clearly. Don’t miss even a second of your game dealing with the hassles of glasses and contact lenses. With LASIK, not only can you enjoy freedom from contact lenses and glasses, you’ll maximize your enjoyment when you participate in your favorite sports!

Leave Your Glasses and Contacts Behind

Contact lenses or sport glasses are needed for young children or teens with poor vision in order to play the game safely. However, when eyes stabilize, typically around ages 18-22, permanent vision correction, like LASIK, is the best option to experience the visual freedom that you deserve. That means no more glasses and no more contact lenses getting in the way of your sport performance.

There’s no need to keep on dealing with the hassles of glasses and contact lenses when playing sports. With LASIK, you won’t have to worry about your contact lenses falling out during a game anymore. You’ll experience how great it truly is not having to bring contact solution, a backup pair of contacts, glasses, a glasses case and all that other stuff you used to need. Bringing that to games just holds you back.

The thing we hear the most often from our LASIK patients is “I only wish I would have done this sooner!” As an athlete, don’t regret not having LASIK at the beginning of your sports days. Whether playing sports for fun or competitively, it’s a big advantage to not wear glasses or contact lenses– those hassles can throw someone’s whole game off!

What are the advantages of LASIK?

There are many ways in which LASIK can give you the freedom to focus on your sport.

  • Better peripheral vision – Even the best wrap around sports glasses still limit your peripheral vision. LASIK eliminates this problem.
  • Increased comfort – There’s nothing as uncomfortable or distracting as the feeling of glasses slipping down your nose when you’re really active. Contact lenses can tear or fall out during a game. LASIK will give you increased comfort and peace of mind.
  • It’s Safer – There’s no more chance of losing a contact or breaking your glasses.
  • Enables a life without barriers – Life without glasses or contact lenses is simply easier and a better solution.

What’s Your Best Option?

Ready to experience a more natural vision for sports without your glasses and contact lenses? No matter your sport type– winter sports, outdoor, or indoor sports, vision correction like LASIK is optimal for your active lifestyle. When it comes to your performance and comfort in sports, LASIK is the clear winner over glasses and contact lenses!

Up Your Game

With LASIK, you’ll see better than ever, and there’s nothing standing between you and the best view of your life!  You will be able to see the goal line better and you’ll notice your surroundings better as well. And the kind of confidence that brings is sure to up anyone’s game! Isn’t it time to see clearly without the nuisance of glasses and contact lenses?

Thanks for pointing out that LASIK provides more comfort and peace of mind than contacts or glasses when playing sports. My son recently made it on to his high school football team, but I’ve been worried about his contacts being damaged our lost during the game. Perhaps we should look into getting LASIK for him.

In early adulthood, typically between ages 18-21, our eyes have completely developed and are stable enough to benefit from laser vision correction. Choosing to have laser vision correction at an early stage is an economical decision and a lifestyle decision. The type of vision correction treatment will depend on the health of your eyes and your current prescription, but the overall target for any patient at this stage is to achieve complete independence from glasses or contacts. If you would like to find out if he’d be a good candidate, please call us at 402.558.2211. Thank you!
