The Opportunity
Kugler Vision is an ophthalmology practice in Omaha looking for a motivated, people-first gap year student to join our team as an Ophthalmic Technician. You’ll be the first face our patients see — and one of the most important members of our care team.
Before the ophthalmologist or optometrist ever steps into the room, you’ll have already gathered the patient’s history, performed diagnostic tests, and set the stage for their exam. This isn’t shadowing. This is hands-on, meaningful clinical work from day one.
What You’ll Do
- Be the face of the practice — greet patients warmly, answer phones, and schedule appointments with professionalism and care
- Gather patient histories using our EMR system (Modernizing Medicine), collecting background information that directly informs the physician’s care plan
- Perform diagnostic ocular tests and measurements — real clinical skills you’ll carry into your future training
- Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists during basic procedures
- Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments and equipment, keeping the practice running smoothly and safely
- Deliver exemplary patient service at every interaction — a cheerful, compassionate attitude is at the heart of everything we do

Who We’re Looking For
- A gap year student planning to pursue medicine, optometry, nursing, PA studies, or a related healthcare field
- Someone with a genuine passion for patient care and a natural ability to make people feel comfortable
- A detail-oriented, organized self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communicator — warm, professional, and reliable
- Basic computer proficiency; prior EMR experience is a bonus, not a requirement
- No prior clinical experience necessary — just curiosity, commitment, and a great attitude
Position Details
- Full-time only (benefits eligible)
- On-site at our Omaha, NE location — no remote work
- Strong performers may be considered for continued employment beyond the placement
