Today’s Latest Fitness Workouts and Vision Health
Published by on August 1, 2017
Have you noticed how many health clubs, personal trainers and boutique fitness studios we have in Omaha? The fitness trend is at an all-time high not only across the country but also in our great city. Do you enjoy classic favorites such as Pilates and Zumba? Or do you prefer today’s latest fitness workouts such as WarFit (warrior fitness) or Pure Barre (think ballet)? Well you can find them all here. But no matter which exercise program you prefer, there’s one thing that can slow you down in class and get in the way of you reaching your fitness goals and vision health. Prescription eyeglasses.
Let’s look at a few of this year’s latest fitness trends here in Omaha as we explain how wearing glasses might impact your workout – but not in a good way.
CrossFit
This is one workout everyone is talking about! CrossFit is a high-intensity fitness workout usually done in a group and led by a fitness trainer. It mixes hundreds of movements from a variety of fitness and sports disciplines. Everything from gymnastics, weightlifting, running and rowing. Phew! But, if you do CrossFit training and have a need for prescription eyewear, you’ll likely need to sideline your eyeglasses as they will definitely impede your activity.
Piloxing and PiYo
Why invent a new fitness program when you can reinvent an old one? Take Pilates. If you combine Pilates and boxing, you get Piloxing. This strenuous exercise routine helps you burn more fat and build lean muscles. And if you combine Pilates and Yoga you get PiYo, which helps you stretch and tone your body. With all the different moves you’ll be doing, you’ll need to be extra careful your glasses don’t fall off and get crushed.
Outdoor Workouts
You don’t need to limit your fitness regimen to the gym. Take it outdoors so your body and mind get a fresh-air workout. We’re talking everything from hill sprints to jumping rope and playing a sport, where you use your full body strength to get a total body workout. But it’s hard for your surroundings to come into focus if your glasses constantly slip down your nose. And you know they’ll get smudges when you push them back up.
Walking and Cycling
Two classic forms of exercise, walking and cycling, are gaining fans among commuters. Why?. By walking or cycling to work, you can enjoy a workout and save money on travel costs. What’s not to love? But, if you’re wearing glasses and rain, sleet, fog, snow or other bad weather hits, your lenses will fog up and need cleaning. Often.
Rest Day
We all know that exercise is good for your health. But it’s also important to take a rest day to give your body time to recuperate between your workouts. Exercise can cause inflammation and have your muscles pleading for a break. What you need is a deep-tissue massage, and the latest trend is to use a foam roller to do this. With foam rolling you apply pressure to parts of your body to loosen muscle knots and stiffness and boost your recovery. You’ll be going at a slower pace, laying on your side, back or belly. But in even these relaxed positions, your glasses can slip around and be a hassle.
We’ve talked about the demands of today’s latest fitness trends and there’s no doubt about it: glasses get in the way. So, if you feel that wearing glasses is stopping you from seeing with perfect vision and achieving your fitness goals, now might be a good time to think about having LASIK vision correction.
