Running and LASIK
Published by on June 5, 2018
Being a runner isn’t always easy. It requires sacrifice, hard work, and dedication. For runners with blurry vision, it takes even more work. Many runners wake up early, get dressed, and decide if they are going to hit the road in contact lenses or glasses. Glasses fog up and get streaked or dirty once you start to break a sweat. Contacts may trap allergens close to the eye and can lead to discomfort or dryness. It’s a frustrating choice to make every day. That’s why many runners choose to end the cycle with LASIK.
Laser vision correction like LASIK can benefit the everyday athlete in you. Whether you are a weekly jogger or marathon veteran, you can quickly see the benefits of LASIK.
LASIK Transforms Lives
We believe a life without glasses and contacts is a better life for everyone, and especially beneficial for active people like runners. We don’t want you to just take our word for it. We invite you to hear what our patients who enjoy running have to say about their experience at Kugler Vision in Omaha, and how LASIK changed their lives for the better.
“I consulted at four vision correction centers in Omaha and ended up choosing Kugler Vision for my procedure. I could not have made a better choice.
The consult at Kugler Vision put me at ease when I was still on the fence about the procedure (some places weren’t as reassuring) and it was even EASIER than I expected. There was no pain and the entire experience on surgery day was a dream. I was checked in right away, got to select my surgery music, and waited in a massage chair.
Recovery was effortless, and Dr. Kugler himself called me that night to check in on me. The drops were no issue and the post-op instructions were clear and easy to follow.
I’m about one month post op, and it’s amazing how not worrying about glasses/contacts has made a difference in my life. I’m one of those crazy people that likes to run at the crack of dawn, and just eliminating that ONE EXTRA step in the morning at 4:30 am is a huge convenience.
If you’re on the fence about LASIK because you’re worried or waiting for a ‘better time,’ then don’t walk … run to Kugler Vision and get your consult!
I echo the sentiments of every reviewer before. My only regret is wishing I would have done it sooner.”

“Since I was in kindergarten, I’ve had glasses. I guess after 30 years you get used to dealing with the discomfort of blurry vision, slipping glasses, foggy glasses, and yes, growing up with cracked and broken glasses. Growing up, my parents and I had spent thousands of dollars on pair after pair of glasses. I was ready for a change. I studied LASIK and knew that I wanted that change.
LASIK would forever change my life. I was very nervous going into surgery. He and his staff were very patient, walking me through every detail of the procedure before and during the surgery, ensuring that I was completely comfortable. Dr. Kugler was simply amazing.
When I went in for LASIK, I weighed 265 pounds, and was dealing with high blood pressure, borderline cholesterol, depression and anxiety, and sleep apnea. Needless to say, for someone in their early 30s, my health was not heading in the right direction. With diabetes running in my family, the doctors warned me that I needed to make some changes.
After I had my LASIK procedure, my children encouraged me to learn how to swim, which started me on a path that has since completely changed my life.
I started to feel better about myself, and I started running. Thanks to not having to deal with glasses, I wasn’t bothered by sweat sliding my glasses down and dripping on my lenses, and on sunny days my sunglasses helped me to not have to squint into the sun. I loved it. The pounds started coming off, and I started running longer and longer. I entered and completed my first marathon a year and a half later.
Thanks to LASIK, I have a new goal. I want to compete in and finish an Ironman event. Certainly something that I would never would have considered with glasses.
Most importantly, I went in two months ago for a physical weighing a much leaner 176 pounds and down from a 42 waist size to a size 34. The doctor told me some great news: My heart test results were outstanding. I no longer had high blood pressure, and I was no longer a high risk for diabetes.
Thanks to Dr. Kugler and his staff, my life has been forever transformed. You know they say you don’t realize how much you miss something until it’s gone. Well, I didn’t realize how much wearing glasses affected my self-image, my self-confidence, and my life in general until they were gone. Now, I see clearly and my future looks fun, full of adventure, and most importantly, healthy.”
