What is EVO?

Unlike other types of vision correction surgery, EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) does not involve reshaping the cornea. With EVO, the surgeon implants a small, flexible lens inside the eye to correct vision. The lens is made of a biocompatible material called Collamer, which is designed to be well-tolerated by the body.

EVO ICLs are tailored to each unique eye, so the procedure can be used to correct a variety of vision problems, including nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. 

How does EVO ICL work?

During the EVO ICL procedure, a surgeon makes a tiny opening in the corneal surface of the eye and inserts the implantable contact lens behind the iris, the colored part of the eye. The lens is positioned in front of the eye’s natural lens, which allows it to correct vision problems without altering the shape of the cornea.

Once in place, the EVO ICL lens works in a similar fashion to an external contact lens. The lens bends and focuses light as it enters the eye, which corrects vision problems and improves visual acuity. Unlike a traditional contact, EVO never needs to be cleaned, removed daily, repositioned or maintained in any way.

What are the benefits of EVO ICL?

EVO ICL offers several unique benefits. For one, it can correct a wider range of vision problems than other procedures. Additionally, because it does not involve reshaping the cornea, it can be a good option for people with thin corneas or other corneal abnormalities.

ICL surgery is also reversible, which means that if a patient’s vision changes or they simply desire to do something different, the lens can be easily removed or replaced.

How safe is EVO ICL?

The risks associated with EVO ICL surgery are low, and most patients experience a significant improvement in their vision almost immediately after the procedure. 

Like any surgical procedure, EVO carries minimal risk of infection, inflammation or increased pressure in the eye. These small risks can be lowered substantially by following the surgeon’s post-operative instructions and keeping up with follow-up appointments and care. Some patients may also experience glare, halos or other visual disturbances for a period of time following surgery.
