1 Million ICLs Implanted Worldwide
Published by on June 17, 2019
What is the ICL?
The ICL is a refractive lens that works with your natural lens. Not to be confused with a contact lens, the ICL is an Implantable Collamer Lens. It is a permanent lens that cannot be seen or felt. There is no maintenance and, unlike LASIK, there is no correcting of your cornea involved. The ICL procedure is recognized as the most recent advancement in refractive surgery, but don’t let that fool you – it has been around for 15 years and is FDA-approved, just like LASIK.
The 1 Million Milestone
A significant milestone has been reached recently: more than 1 million ICLs have been implanted worldwide. Seventy-five countries have access to improving the vision of those living with myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism through the ICL.
One million lives have been changed through a lens no larger than .5 millimeters.
The creators behind the ICL lens, STAAR Surgical, have developed a breakthrough in refractive surgery, making vision correction possible for those who are not candidates for LASIK or PRK. As the need for distance correction grows around the globe, the Implantable Collamer Lens stands tall with a 99% satisfaction rate that continues to grow.
Kugler Vision proudly offers the ICL procedure for those who are candidates. If you would like more information on the ICL or the other vision correction procedures that we offer, call us at 402.558.2211.
