Patient Focus: Lindsey
Published by on April 25, 2017
Lance Kugler, MD of Omaha’s Kugler Vision is the first surgeon in Nebraska or Iowa to perform SMILE – a relatively new laser vision correction procedure. Lindsey, a Kugler Vision patient, is excited to transform her life with SMILE on April 26, 2017.
Lindsey will be the first patient to have this life-changing procedure at Kugler Vision. For years she believed that laser vision correction was not an option, until she found out she was a good candidate for SMILE. Lindsey’s story is below.
About Lindsey, A Kugler Vision SMILE Patient
“I work on the Customer Experience team for Union Pacific. In my free time, I love to golf, go to concerts and movies, garden, travel, and spend time with my family.
I was first diagnosed as nearsighted when I was in third grade. At age eight, I started wearing glasses. Smurfette glasses to be exact, then I eventually started wearing contact lenses around the seventh grade.
Imagine Life Without The Need For Glasses or Contact Lenses
My biggest frustration about life with glasses and contact lenses is being completely dependent on them. I cannot function without one or the other. I actually have to feel around on the nightstand (and sometimes on the floor) to find my glasses.
Blurry vision has become so much a normal part of my everyday life that it is hard to imagine life without it. It’s emotional to think about the possibility of life without glasses or contact lenses – just being able to wake up and see clearly!
Right up there with the dependency, is the cost of the supplies and the replacements. Even with good insurance, there is a hefty cost involved – especially with high-index, nearsighted prescriptions.
I Was Told I Wasn’t A Good LASIK Candidate
Twelve years ago, I was interested in having LASIK and was told that due to the severity of my prescription that I was not a good candidate for laser vision correction.
Fast forward to 2016, my husband encouraged me to have another consultation, highlighting how much it could improve my quality of life. After hearing about and researching laser technology advancements used in laser vision correction, I decided to visit Dr. Kugler at Kugler Vision to learn more.
SMILE – I am a Candidate
I found out that I was a good candidate for laser vision correction at my consultation. Dr. Kugler recommended SMILE, and after weighing the pros and cons, I decided that SMILE was right for me!
Honestly, I had never heard of SMILE before visiting Kugler Vision for my consultation. Dr. Kugler educated me on how much technology has progressed, noting he can perform seven different procedures to improve vision.
I cannot wait to wake up and be able to see without fumbling for my glasses. I am also looking forward to summer water activities, knowing that I won’t have to worry about losing a contact!
Do Not Give Up
From this experience, I think that everyone should take the time to at least get a consultation – even if they were told in the past that they were not a good candidate – to see what solutions are available before surrendering to a life filled with glasses and contact lenses.”
