Kugler Vision Donates to Hospital in Africa
Published by on August 1, 2016
There is a great need for vision correction procedures in Africa. There is currently just 1 ophthalmologist per million people! When you choose Kugler Vision in Omaha, NE, you join us in making a difference – and you go above and beyond to help someone in need. In support of the Bongolo Hospital in Gabon, Africa, we just sent a package containing
- 103 glasses
- 45 glasses cases
- 97 boxes of Eye Vitamin and Mineral Supplement
- 168 various contact lens boxes
- 16 children’s books
All this was possible because of Kugler Vision patients who don’t need them any more because they had vision correction! We are excited for the needed items to arrive at the Bongolo Hospital and get into the hands of the people who need them.
Why Bongolo Hospital?
The Ophthalmology Program at Bongolo Hospital currently does about 70% of all cataract surgeries performed in the country of Gabon, as well as other types of necessary vision saving eye surgeries and services. The ophthalmology clinic is a very busy place, and generally is programmed out for 6-9 months for surgeries. Bongolo Hospital is a 158-bed facility in the town of Lebamba with an Eye Surgery Clinic, an Outpatient department, Surgery, Adult Medicine, Maternity, Pediatrics and a Laboratory! There is also a Dental Clinic, and an AIDS/HIV Treatment Center, all needed specialties in the area.
Their mission is to serve basic health care services to all who come, to be a center of hope, and to meet the medical needs of the people of Gabon. Gabon is home to many elderly people who don’t have the funds to travel to the hospital. Sadly, many of them also think cataracts are just part of old age and can’t be helped. The Bongolo Hospital sees a great number of people who have had cataracts for years! These are the poorest people in the country and many of them wouldn’t be able to pay for services unassisted.
What Can You Do?
Kugler Vision contributes to Bongolo Hospital by helping give them needed equipment and supplies. We also give them eye glasses and contact lenses from our patients who no longer need them. By choosing Kugler Vision for your laser vision correction procedure, whether that be LASIK, ASA, KAMRA inlay, Laser Cataract Surgery, or Dysfunctional Lens Replacement (DLR), you can help us help the Bongolo Hospital by donating your used glasses and contact lens supplies after your laser vision correction procedure. Simply leave them with us, and we will ensure they get to the Bongolo Hospital. You won’t need your old glasses anymore. Why not give them to someone in need?
