We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Drew Dickson, MD, has been appointed to the prestigious STAAR EVO ICL Surgery Training Program, and achievement that highlights Dr. Dickson’s experience and dedication to vision correction as well as Kugler Vision’s commitment to innovation and industry expertise.
The STAAR EVO ICL Surgery Trainer Program is a cutting-edge initiative designed to elevate the skills and knowledge of new surgeons entering the field of vision correction using the EVO ICL, a soft, flexible lens which is implanted inside the eye between the iris (the colored part of the eye) and the natural lens. The EVO ICL provides eligible patients with high-quality vision correction, especially for those with high prescriptions and delivers a “wow-factor” that leaves many patients amazed at their new, crystal-clear vision.
STAAR Experience Center Facilities
Hosted at the STAAR Experience Center, this program will offer an immersive training environment where surgeons can learn everything from patient selection criteria to the intricacies of the surgical procedure, as well as post-operative care. “Since Kugler Vision is one of the highest-performing EVO ICL centers in the country, I was approached by some of the leadership at STAAR Surgical and asked if I would help with this new training program,” Dr. Dickson explained.

In his new role, Dr. Dickson will travel to the STAAR Experience Center several times a year with other ophthalmologists, such as Dr. Brett Mueller of Mueller Vision in Fort Worth, Texas, to lead training courses, mentor new EVO ICL surgeons, and help certify them in performing EVO ICL surgery. His involvement will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of vision correction specialists.
Dr. Dickson recently visited the new STAAR Experience Center, seeing both training and lens production environments firsthand. “Each EVO ICL is individually created custom to the patient’s prescription and goes through an extensive quality evaluation before they are shipped out to be used in surgery,” Dr. Dickson noted. “It was fascinating to see this process and gave me confidence as a surgeon that my patients are receiving a premium product.”
