Misconceptions about LASIK

Although LASIK surgery has been performed around the world for two decades, there are still many misconceptions about LASIK. The truth is LASIK is a remarkable alternative for anyone who wishes to achieve a lens-free lifestyle. Let’s go through some of the most prevalent misconceptions that persist to this day.

# 1 – I can’t have LASIK because it doesn’t correct astigmatism.

Wrong, LASIK can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, including mixed astigmatism. Dr. Kugler discusses this issue here.

#2- I will have to take off too much time from work to have LASIK.

In fact, the beauty of having LASIK is how quickly the patient recovers. Most patients who have surgery are back to work the next day and taking part in normal activities within just a few days. Patients are instructed to take a nap immediately after surgery and they awake with improved vision! There are certain post-operative instructions to follow for the first week, but beyond that there are very few restrictions. There are a series of post-operative visits over a year so your doctor can watch the healing process.

#3- Another doctor told me a few years ago that I’m not a candidate, so I stopped thinking about it.

You may now be a candidate although you weren’t years ago. There are always new technologies and improvements in laser surgery. Certain conditions still may eliminate you from being a good candidate, like Lupus or anything that suggests you have a compromised auto-immune system. But with the changing technology, you should be evaluated again to determine if you are now a good candidate for LASIK with Kugler Vision. Many patients who first thought they could not take advantage of this life changing procedure are delighted to find out that they may in-fact be a candidate for LASIK!

#4- LASIK is still too new of a surgery. I want to wait longer to see what the long term effects are.

Millions of laser surgeries have been performed world-wide. The LASIK procedure itself was formally approved by the FDA in 1999, and is now the most popular elective surgery in the US according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

#5-There is really no difference between LASIK surgeons

Nothing could be further from the truth! Even with all the latest state of the art technology the LASIK surgeon is paramount to whether your results will be mediocre or outstanding.  Choosing your LASIK surgeon is very important and making sure you do your research will help you make the correct discussion when it comes to your vision. What you should look for, experience, proper education and a commitment to the best results possible. That kind of experience and commitment to your care is what you will find at Kugler Vision. We treat all our patients like members of our own family.

Don’t allow these or other misconceptions about this life changing surgery prevent you from experiencing the miracle of LASIK. Don’t waste another day. Contact us today to see if you are a candidate.
